Larger waste electrical and electronic equipment can also be deposited such as TV’s, Fridges and Freezers, and Computers.
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive aims to minimise the impact of waste electrical and electronic goods on the environment by increasing reuse and recycling of these products. Distributors and manufacturers must allow consumers to return their waste equipment when buying new goods. As yet, there is no provision locally for the recycling of smaller electrical house hold goods but this is in the pipeline and when introduced old hairdryers, toasters, kettles etc. will be accepted at the recycling centre in Fort William. Where possible household furniture and white electrical items are reconditioned and passed on to be reused. Otherwise they go to a recycling company that will break them down into their constituent parts. No electrical items should go to landfill. |
