Kerbside Collection

Rural Lochaber

Blue Bins

Each household out with the Fort William area has been issued with a blue bin.

The blue bins are part of the kerbside collection scheme and are collected on a monthly basis. The blue recycling bins take: cardboard, paper (not envelopes, put these into compost), magazines and newspapers, tins, and plastic bottles (no lids).

  • Rinse out cans and milk bottles before putting in the bin to prevent smells
  • Plastic bottle lids can be saved and taken to the recycling centre where they are collected and recycled for motility scooters
  • Squash plastic bottles and fold cardboard to fit a lot more in the bin

Fort William Area

Brown Bins

The Fort William area has brown bins for recycling biodegradable garden waste.

The bins are collected on alternate weeks and are taken to the landfill site at Duisky where they are composted by Locheil Logistics.

Blue Boxes

Blue boxes for recycling paper are also provided in the immediate Fort William area, and these are collected on alternate weeks to the brown bins.

  • Do not contaminate paper in blue boxes with envelopes or cardboard
  • Envelopes can be scrunched up and put in compost along with small amounts of cardboard e.g. egg boxes, tea boxes, cereal boxes etc.
