Dedicated to one planet living, LEG strives to have local impact. Our aim is to encourage the development of a widespread desire to take action on the environment locally and to offer the tools to enable people to realise this.

At present LEG has six members of staff:

• A part-time administrator based in our office at An Drochaid

• Two project officers (job-sharing) managing the LIFE initiative

• One Zero Waste project officer covering Skye and Lochaber

• One part-time Development Officer

• One part-time Strategic Development Worker

Board Members

LEG is run by a Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers.  The governing document allows for between 5 and 12 people to be on the Board at any one time.   

In 2011 the members are:

• Christine Clephan

• Benny MacDonald

• Alison Munroe

• Scott McCombie  

The Board receives good support from local Councillors especially Brian Murphy and Bren Gormley and from Highland Council officials including Andy Hume in Waste Management and Dot Ferguson, Area Manager for the Lochaber Wards.

About LEG

Lochaber Environmental Group was registered as a Scottish Charity in March 1999, no. SCO 029091 and as a Company Limited by Guarantee in June 2003 Co. No. 251043.

The registered objects are:

• to preserve, conserve and restore the environment of Lochaber for the benefit of the public

• to advance the education of the public in the study of the environment and of waste management

• the advancement of education, promotion of welfare and improvement of the conditions of those excluded from mainstream society in Lochaber through poverty, disability, race, unemployment or isolated location

• the advancement of education through the provision of training and employment opportunities for such people primarily but not exclusively within the recycling and wider environmental sectors
