Zero Waste 

This project is at the heart of our work here at LEG as we try to make a big impact on the amount of domestic waste we produce in Lochaber.

We aim to do this by targeting three of the major sources of unnecessary waste in the home.

• Stop The Drop addresses the problem of unwanted mail. Junk mail is a massive waste not only creating rubbish for landfill but also the trees wasted making the paper and energy in printing and delivering it. We provide tips on how to reduce and even stop different types of unwanted mail.
• Love Food Hate Waste looks at the amount of food we throw away, as much as £430 a year in the average Scottish home. This could be saved from going to landfill and the energy in growing, packaging and delivering the food could also be saved.
• Home Composting targets domestic garden waste and promotes the Peat Free approach to gardening. By diverting you clippings cuttings and general garden waste into your own compost bin you can not only reduce the volume of landfill we create but also make a valuable product that will save you buying compost that may be contributing to the consumption of peat banks that take thousands of years to develop.
